Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment of Allergies

Allergies are seemingly everywhere now.  Living in this area, we are subjected to some of the worst seasonal allergies in the entire country.  Food allergies are on a meteoric rise in children.  Nearly 1 in 3 Americans now suffer from some type of allergy.  Dr. Stephen Pollard is one of the nation’s leading allergists and will walk the audience through the symptoms of various types of allergies, as well as the cause of these symptoms and how best to treat them.  He will take questions from the audience and hopes to educate those in attendance on how to best overcome the frustrating symptoms of allergies.  Dr. Pollard is based in Louisville and also practices in Columbus with Family Allergy & Asthma.  He has been an allergist for more than 35 years and leads one of the most advanced allergy research centers in the country.

Catholic Boy Blues: A Poet’s Journal of Healing

Norbert Krapf, Indiana Poet Laureate 2008 to 2010, kept a secret for half a century: as a boy in Jasper, he was molested by his parish priest.  Seven years ago Krapf began writing poems about his abuse and the result is Catholic Boy Blues.  Tonight’s event will include a reading from poems in the book in four voices (the boy, the man, the priest, and Mr. Blues, an advisor and healer), question and answer, and a book signing.   Lynn Pittman, LCSW and Child Abuse Prevention Coordinator, Raina Jones from Family Service, Inc. will be present as local resources.  Viewpoint Books will have copies of Catholic Boy Blues for sale. Krapf recently received the Indiana Authors Award as the best Regional Author. Sponsored by the Bartholomew County Library Associates.
