Pair arrested for burglary, kidnapping, drugs in Jackson Co.

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a possible burglary at a residence on Newford Road next to the White River on Monday. The owner says he came home and found two males inside his residence. The men had apparently entered the house through a window.

Authorities say the homeowner held one subject at gunpoint as the other man ran from the residence. When a deputy arrived he placed Sloane Smith, 24, of Seymour, into custody.

Officers from the Seymour Police Department, deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police set up a perimeter around the area and later located Craig Mettey, 32, and placed him under arrest. The suspect had also allegedly attempted to enter an occupied vehicle while officers were searching for him.

Smith faces three felony charges, including possession of methamphetamine, residential entry, and burglary. Mettey was booked on felony charges of burglary, kidnapping, and residential entry.
