The Girl Scouts of Jackson County will be collecting canned goods & non-perishable items during the Oktoberfest parade. Please bring your items to the parade and give them to one of the girl scouts pushing shopping carts. Your donations are appreciated!

The Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society is sponsoring the 10th Annual Fall River Sweep on October 5th, 2013. Volunteers will have the opportunity to canoe a section of the Muscatatuck River or walk along its bank while collecting trash and contributing positively to the environment and community. Everyone is welcome to participate; we ask that their parent or other responsible adults accompany small children. All are encouraged to dress in clothing appropriate for outdoor work and relative to the current weather conditions.
Registration is at 8:00am at the Vernon Commons, located off Jackson Street in Vernon. A brief safety instruction, equipment distribution and group location assignments will be held before going to the river sweep locations. Participants interested in canoeing during the cleanup must provide their own canoe.
Participants will conclude their day at 12:00pm at the North Vernon City Park, Shelter House #3, where lunch will be provided from food donated by local businesses.

The women of North Christian Church, 850 Tipton Lane,
Columbus, will be holding a “Trinkets & Treasures” sale
on Saturday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gently
used household items as well as baked goods will be available.
Proceeds will support their outreach ministries.
The Ross Family is having a lasagna dinner on October 5, 2013 at the Scipio Firehouse to raise money for the Laura May Ross Memorial Scholarship Fund. Dinner will be served from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. Donations are needed. T-shirts will also be for sale. A benefit concert on behalf of Our Hospice of South Central Indiana will be presented by 40 Years of College at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th at the Columbus North High School Erne Auditorium. The ticketed event is being sponsored by 40 Years of College, a well-known Columbus area classic rock band, to help Our Hospice raise funds and defray costs associated with the 2013 Hospice Concert, which was rained out on August 31st at Mill Race Park, Columbus. All proceeds from the benefit concert will help provide care and services for Our Hospice patients with an advanced illness and their families, regardless of their ability to pay.
