Make an ornament to honor a veteran or current member of the military. Ornaments can contain a photo and/or name of your veteran and any other decorations you wish to add. Or, you can pick up a paper ornament in the shape of a dog tag at the library. The Heroes Tree will go up at the library on November 11th and stay in place through the end of the year.
Centra Foundation will partner with the Salvation Army (FOP Cops & kids in Jackson County) in each of the Indiana communities where Centra Credit Union has a branch. Angel Tree tags will be displayed on Christmas Trees in the branch. Our intent is to provide a new option for individuals who do not have the time to purchase gifts and return them to the Salvation Army.
Christmas Angels Tags with a child’s name and age will represent a child’s complete wish/need and will be valued from $50- $100. Other ornaments will offer smaller donation amounts starting at $10. These donations would be pooled towards the purchase of gifts.
The program will run from Nov 25th – Dec 14th.
Total Fitness is hosting a Reindeer 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, December 14, at 8:00 am. with proceeds benefiting the Humane Society. Entry fee is $15 and all participants receive a t-shirt. You can sign up at Total Fitness and the deadline to sign up is December 9.
On December 15, come in your pajamas ready for a make-believe train ride to the North Pole, complete with hot chocolate, holiday crafts and a jingly surprise. Listen to a reading of the well-loved Christmas story, “The Polar Express.” Participate in museum-wide activity stations while learning interesting locomotive facts and enjoying model trains!

Fairlawn Presbyterian Church invites the community to worship on Sunday, December 8th, at 9:30 a.m. The service will include special music by the Fairlawn Chancel Choir and the Saint Bartholomew Choir, under the musical direction of Drs. Mirabella and Bogdan Minut. The combined choir will present inspiring arrangements of traditional Christmas carols and original music by world renowned British composer and conductor John Rutter. The Homes Tour was originally scheduled for Friday, December 6, but because of the forecast for Friday, we are moving the event to Sunday, December 8, 5:00-8:00 p.m. This self-guided tour will take ticket holders to six beautifully decorated homes in the Hope area. Tickets and driving directions can be purchased in advance at Strawberry Fields Mercantile, Reflections Hair on the Square, the Star Journal Office, and the Hope Area Welcome Center, all in Hope. The evening of the event, the Yellow Trail Museum will open at 4:00 p.m. to sell tickets and to offer delicious refreshments to all guests. Tickets are $10 each. Don’t miss this annual event.
With Christmas right around the corner, what could be a better way to start off the holiday season than joining in with friends to enjoy some Christmas worship? This will be an evening for the whole family. It will have multiple generations and styles, allowing all who come to worship freely. This service will feature music by: The FCC Jazz band, Moyer Brothers, Legacy Children’s Choir, Family Worship Band, Kid.nect Worship Team, Worship Choir, Justin White Family Singers, and some International Christmas Jamming. So make sure to join us for a great night of worship.
