Columbus Area Arts Council Annual Meeting to Focus on STEAM Education

The Columbus Area Arts Council’s annual report to the community will be held Tuesday, April 22 at YES Cinema. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 4:30 PM and the program will begin promptly at 5:00 PM. Don Steffy, a well-known leader in the Indianapolis arts community and founder of the Pike Performing Arts Center, will deliver the keynote speech, “The Arts, are they a “matter” of opinion? Creating STEAM for STEM Education.” YES Cinema is located at 328 Jackson Street in the heart of the Columbus Arts District.

Mr. Steffy’s talk will focus on adding arts education to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) education to create STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). STEAM is a movement initially championed by the Rhode Island School of Art and Design (RISD) that is nowwidely adopted by other educational institutions, corporations, and individuals. The goal of adding Arts education to the traditional STEM model is to foster true innovation that comes from combining the mind of a scientist with that of a designer.

The public is invited to attend the annual report to the community. For additional information, please visit www.artsincolumbus.org.

Central Middle School Spanish Fair

Untitled

All of the students here at Central that are taking a Spanish class are presenting at the fair about a Spanish speaking country that they have researched. They will also have some great activities for kids (and adults) to do at their booth that either come from that country or pertain to that country. The event is free but there are some booths that Spanish club is sponsoring that do cost money. The money raised by Spanish club will go towards a scholarship fund to help students travel to Puerto Rico through a travel abroad program we plan to do.
