Heather Siesel from Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management which operates the Recycling Center in Columbus and in the county will cover how and what to recycle in Bartholomew County. She will also cover new recycling options such as electronics and vinyl siding. Program is sponsored by the Sierra Club, refreshments and discussion follow the presentation.

Food that is mishandled can cause many very serious consequences. For this reason it is important that the food at events such as family reunions, church dinners, and community gatherings be prepared and served correctly – whether the food is prepared in a volunteer’s home and brought to the event or prepared and served at the gathering. Events such as these should not be threatened by food borne illnesses. This information class is for volunteers preparing and serving food where often health inspections are not required. Presenter is Harriet Armstrong, Bartholomew County Extension Health & Human Sciences Program Assistant.

New to computers? We will share with you tips on using a mouse; ways to improve your typing; and help you get started creating, printing, saving and organizing your information.

The 1st Annual Hope Relay for Life Tribute Ride to all those affected by cancer will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Registration is at 8:00 am at the east side of Hope Square. Cost is $10 for one rider or $15 for two. Tribute Ride T-Shirts are available to those who pre-register up to a month in advance for $15.

This will be a 60-80 mile route with a gas station stop.

years in the industry, will cover topics such as child safety, senior safety, falls, chemicals, firearms, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, personal protection, electrical safety and other topics during this session. There will also be a Q&A session.

Using Word 2007, learn how to create and save a new document, how to setup formatting (font/paragraph/alignment), how to make lists, how to make tables, and much more.

To celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Week aka WWKIP join Cathi Jones, former owner of Cottage Knits, and continue the tradition of knitting and crocheting baby hats for Columbus Regional Hospital. This presentation will cover the basics of how to attract, observe and identify butterflies in your yard and garden. It is important to remember that butterflies spend part of their lives as caterpillars, and this metamorphic stage also will be discussed in detail, in addition to the egg, chrysalis and adult. Participants are invited to bring caterpillars and chrysalises that they have found. Butterfly collecting, preservation and display techniques also will be demonstrated. All ages are welcome to attend. Presenter Luke Jacobus is a an Assistant Professor of Biology at IUPUC.

See the design for the landscaped connector walkway between the Library and Visitors Center. Discover plans for the rebuilding of the exterior stairways incorporating both safety and preservation of aesthetics.

Bartholomew County Public Library Reference Librarian Tyler Munn will talk about the various free downloadable items offered at your library. He will demonstrate how to download eBooks, audio books, magazines and music to a variety of devices.

The 4th Annual Give Back Gals Outing will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Hickory Stick.

Proceeds from the event will go toward Leadership Johnson County, Johnson County Community Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity Johnson County.
