You are invited for a fun evening at the Cultural Arts & Recreation Center. Santa will be here so bring your camera! Refreshments will be served in the Recreation Center lobby. Kickapoo Preschool will present their Holiday Program at 6:30 pm in Beeson Hall. Also, there will be a Holiday Concert by Franklin Community Band following the preschool program.
Reach Healthy Communities has a FREE Biking for Families session scheduled from 5:30-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Bike Co-op, located in the basement of the United Way Center. The United Way is located at 1531 13th Street in Columbus, Indiana. Laura Garrett, along with Bike Co-op volunteers, will give a tour of the Bike Co-op and discuss basic bike maintenance and safety.
Biking to this event is encouraged but not required. Bicycle racks are located outside of the United Way Center at the 13th Street entrance.
Sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics, this session of Families on the Move offers an opportunity to learn about bike riding and a free gift will be provided to all households.
The Franklin Rotary Club will hose the Jim Rhoades Memorial Hog Roast on Thursday, December 5 in Scott Hall at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Lunch begins at 11:00 am and will be available until 1:30 pm. Lunch is free but donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Johnson County Good Cheer Fun and Interchurch Food Pantry. Dine in or carry out.

A fun, hands-on class with the library’s own award winning Gift Wrap Artist Jessica Hendry. This class gives practical instruction in basic wrapping techniques, and shows how to twist and tie ribbons into beautiful bows with ease. Participants are asked to bring 2 rectangular small or medium size gifts to wrap. Supplies will be provided. Limit of 12 participants. Register at mybcpl.org or call 379-1266.
This group will meet the first Wednesday or every month at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church from 6:00-8:00 in Room 2102.
Angels of Hope hopes to reach out to those who have walked the same path and together, work to restore hope for the future.
The Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives has put together an exhibit called “ Columbus Fire Station Architecture”. It covers a period from when our fire wagons were pulled by horses in the late 1800′s, to our newest fire stations of today. The exhibit includes stations designed by local architects, national architects, and international architects. It also includes the first woman architect to be invited to Columbus to design under the Cummins Engine Foundation program, two architectural models, and “Sgt. Little George”.
The exhibit is located in the gallery space of the Bartholomew County Public Library and is available during library hours.
Centra Foundation will partner with the Salvation Army (FOP Cops & kids in Jackson County) in each of the Indiana communities where Centra Credit Union has a branch. Angel Tree tags will be displayed on Christmas Trees in the branch. Our intent is to provide a new option for individuals who do not have the time to purchase gifts and return them to the Salvation Army.
Christmas Angels Tags with a child’s name and age will represent a child’s complete wish/need and will be valued from $50- $100. Other ornaments will offer smaller donation amounts starting at $10. These donations would be pooled towards the purchase of gifts.
The program will run from Nov 25th – Dec 14th.
Total Fitness is hosting a Reindeer 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, December 14, at 8:00 am. with proceeds benefiting the Humane Society. Entry fee is $15 and all participants receive a t-shirt. You can sign up at Total Fitness and the deadline to sign up is December 9.
