IAEYC – Columbus Chapter Conference

The Columbus Chapter of the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children is hosting a conference for teachers, directors and administrators to attend training and classes on November 1st at the Columbus Learning Center.

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman— The Bulletproof Mind

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman U.S. Army (Ret.) is an internationally recognized scholar, author, soldier, and speaker and one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime.  His presentation will cover topics such as post-traumatic stress disorder and techniques to curtail the development of the disorder, different threat levels and the necessity of preparedness.  A West Point graduate and retired Army paratrooper, Lt. Col. Grossman spent his life examining what causes people to harm others, ways to protect ourselves, and different types of personalities that invite, inflict, or protect the aggression.  There will be a break for lunch-on your own.  Funding for this program from an anonymous donor and the Bartholomew County Library Associates. Job Fair Preparation Workshop

Everyone is invited to “Tomorrow’s Forecast: Transitioning from Fair to Fabulous,” a job fair preparation workshop. Choose Monday, November 3 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am or Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Workshop will include one-on-one resume review by an HR professional, how to get the employers attention, and creating a personal branding statement.

Thursday, November 6th at the Columbus Learning Center. From 12:00 – 1:00 pm, veterans only are welcome to attend. From 1:00 – 4:00 pm, the general public is invited.

Hattie Winters: Civil War Wife

Historian Erin Anderson portrays Hattie Winters, a civil war wife from Hope. Her husband William, a small businessman, volunteered to join the Union Army, Company 1 of the 67th Indiana Infantry in 1862. Anderson’s portrayal shows Hattie as she deals with the personal fear that comes with that, the mother of small children who’s now raising them on her own, a homemaker who trying to hold everything together while her husband’s away fighting, a friend to others who are facing the same struggles as she is, as well as how she and others in Hope deal with death at home and on the war front. Finding Delight in Disorder

Former pastor and author Tony Roberts leads these sessions based on his spiritual memoir Delight in Disorder.  The course will explore questions on the relationship of faith and mental illness such as Does a person who commits suicide forfeit God’s saving love?  How can someone with a mental illness use faith as a resource for healing?
