Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame Induction Nominations

Nominations for Inaugural Induction are Being Accepted Through September 1, 2014

The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame (IMVHOF) is calling for nominations for its first group of honorees.

Its board of directors is compiled of representatives from the business, government and retired military sectors. The Chairman of the board, Russell H. Dowden, Jr., COL, USA (Retired) was inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame in 2011 as that is his home state. Now a Hoosier, Mr. Dowden formed the idea of creating a similar organization here.

Up to fifteen veterans will be honored for military service achievements and/or community contributions. To be eligible, a nominee must meet any one of these criteria:
> Been born in Indiana
> Entered military service in Indiana
> Lived in Indiana for a minimum of eight years

All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, all ages, living or deceased, and males and females will be considered equally. The complete nomination packet and criteria can be found at imvhof.com. Nominations will be accepted through end of day September 1, 2014.

The first induction ceremony will take place on November 7, 2014 at the Garrison at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Lawrence, IN. Event details will be available on the website as it nears.

Alzheimer’s: Communications and Behaviors

This session is designed to explore the nature of behavioral changes in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s disease. It will include strategies to address difficult behaviors and explore how communication with a person with Alzheimer’s changes with disease progression.  Strategies for more effective communication throughout the course of the disease will be given.  Presented by the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana.

Nicole Pence

Columbus native Nicole Pence will chat about her job as anchor of Fox59 NewsPoint at 11.  The show premiered on June 30.  Learn about some of the ins and outs of a newsroom from Nicole.  Note – if a story breaks that morning Nicole will not make it down to Columbus for this program.  Pence was nominated for an Emmy award for her work as a broadcast anchor in April of 2014.  Before coming to FOX59, Pence solo anchored Indianapolis’ number-one rated weekend morning program, Weekend Sunrise on WTHR.  In her spare time, Pence loves to travel. She lived with a family in Segovia, Spain, studied cooking in Italy, climbed the Great Wall in Beijing, China, crawled through the Pyramids in Cairo, Egypt, and tangoed in Argentina.  She is involved with several Central Indiana organizations, including Make-A-Wish, Pacers Cares, and the DePauw University Alumni Association.

Bark in the Park End of Summer Doggie Day

Vendors will be present with information for dogs and their owners inside the pool deck.

Indy Dog & Disc Club will entertain in the field east of pool at 6 pm and 7 pm.
Doggie Swim will be held from 6:30 pm to 8 pm – $5 per dog.

All dogs must be sociable, accompanied by an owner/handler, and on leash (except while swimming).

Family Fun Days: Campfire Cooking

Get ready to churn butter and mix cornbread. We are going to cook like a pioneer. We will work together to make a hardy frontier meal using hearth cooking techniques and historic recipes, then sit down and enjoy are fixins. There will be vegetarian sides, but the main course will have meat. Nothing will be vegan.
