One Stroke Painting

Learn to blend, shade, and highlight, all in one stroke.  Participants will paint a scarecrow and pumpkins on a 12 x 12 gallery wrapped canvas.  Instructor Marilyn Tentler is a Level 2 One Stroke Certified Instructor.  $25 fee covers all supplies. Must register at mybcpl.org or call 379-1266.  For ages 13 and over.

Saturday Sampler: Pumpkin Palooza

A fall tradition for the Bartholomew County Historical Society, Pumpkin Palloosa celebrates everything pumpkin!  Why do we carve pumpkins? Who were the first people to grow pumpkins?  What parts of the pumpkin are edible?  Why are they called jack-o-lanterns?  Learn the answers to all these questions and more as we discover pumpkin lore and even carve a pumpkin to take home!  Enjoy this fall favorite with your family. Our Saturday Samplers are monthly family friendly workshops catered towards small children.

Community Book Read Kickoff Event: Where Soldiers Come From at Yes Cinema

The Emmy award winning film WHERE SOLDIERS COME FROM follows the

four-year journey of childhood friends, forever changed by a faraway war.  A film about growing up it is an intimate look at the young men who fight our wars and the families and town they come from. The director has extraordinary access following these young men as they grow and change from reckless teenagers, to soldiers looking for roadside bombs in Afghanistan, to 23-year-old veterans dealing with the silent war wounds of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and PTSD.  Dominic Fredianelli, featured in the film, will take questions, talk about how Afghanistan changed his life and discuss veteran’s issues.

Freeman Army Air Field Museum-Community Book Read event

Freeman Army Air Field in Seymour was established in 1942 as a pilot training airfield.   Presenter Larry Bothe, volunteer curator of the FAAFM and a Vietnam veteran, will cover the history of Freeman Field, the founding of the museum, and a virtual museum tour. Emphasis will be placed on the foreign aircraft evaluation period and the search for buried artifacts from the WW-II era.

A Day at the Museum-Community Book Read event

The Museum is always a great place to visit and to learn and admission is always free.  Today members of the 71st Special Operation Squadron, activated on May 13, 1968 to expedite the deployment of AC-119G gunships to the Vietnam War, will be present to talk about their mission and work.  They will also share their personal experiences and answer questions.
