Brooks Robinson won a record 16 straight Gold Gloves and is regarded as the greatest fielder in baseball history. Credited with almost single-handedly winning the 1970 World Series, he was one of the most popular players in the 1960s. Along with his accomplishments on the field, his character and ability as a role model were unique, especially when viewed alongside modern players’ astronomical salaries, steroids, and off-field troubles. Columbus ophthalmologist and author Doug Wilson will discuss his new book about Robinson and the things that made him special, along with a discussion of the interviews with former childhood friends and major league teammates. This book reminds fans of the honor and glory at the heart of America’s pastime.
