Biggest Block Party Ever

The Columbus Area Arts Council’s Johnson Witkemper Insurance Biggest Block Party Ever is Saturday, July 27 from 5:30 PM until Midnight in downtown Columbus on Fourth and Washington Streets. Admission is $8. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Look for our $1 off coupons in our ads in The Republic newspaper.

Last year, over 3,000 people attended this annual fundraiser for the Columbus Area Arts Council. This year’s entertainment line-up includes 12 local and regional acts performing on three stages throughout the evening. Mayan Miscalculation, monetary winner of the 2013 Battle of the Bands, is the first group to perform at 5:30 PM on the acoustic stage. Regional acts include Hudson Hornet (Bloomington) and Shiny Penny (Kokomo). A more low-key acoustic stage features local bands, The McGuires and Hamilton Creek.

Headlining this year’s event is the Hunter Smith Band. Many people may recognize Hunter Smith’s name. Smith, who won a Super Bowl ring in 2007 as punter for the Indianapolis Colts, retired from football and launched a music career. “We are looking forward to having Hunter Smith Band headline this year’s event,” said Tami Sharp, program director of the Arts Council. “Their shows are full of energy and we’re sure Columbus will love their pop country/rock sound,” added Sharp.

Downtown restaurants will prepare special block party food for purchase and Bartholomew County Beverage will offer beer, wine, and non-alcohol drinks at convenient stations along Fourth Street.

Children can once again enjoy the Hilliard Lyons Kids Zone in the 300 block of Washington Street.

For additional information about the block party or any other Arts Council programs, visit www.artsincolumbus.org or call 376-2539.

The Columbus Area Arts Council is a public, not-for-profit corporation supported by private donations, the City of Columbus, the State of Indiana through the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
