Pianist Deborrah Wyndham shares the history of our nation’s first ‘pop’ music ragtime which influenced many other musicians and styles of music. With different ethnic musical influences and at first rejected by society for its unusual, syncopated rhythm and venues where it was played, ragtime later on received wide acclaim and its popularity spread fast. Ragtime is an important part of our American musical heritage. Pianist/composer Deborrah Wyndham has given over 3,000 performances and listeners have described her playing as sounding ‘like four hands’. Sponsored by the Bartholomew County Library Associates.
