“Threads of our Diversity: Oral histories from our LGBTQ community” is a project launched in with five community organizations to help give voice to marginalized and “silenced” Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning community members.  A launch event is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2013, 9:30am – 12:30pm, at the Auditorium, Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Avenue, Columbus, Indiana   The program includes a keynote speech by Rev. Dr. Stephen Sprinkle, a presentation on hate crimes by local and federal law enforcement officials, a 30 minute Threads of our Diversity DVD screening, and a discussion with participants about what the community can do to make it more welcoming to LGBTQ members.

Snacks will be served. Registration and coffee is at 9:00am.  Keynote address begins at 9:30am. The event costs $15 and is open to the public.  Scholarships are available.  Please register at ColumbusICC.org.  It is hoped this event will open up dialogue in the community on the topic of sexual orientation and gender identity and what we can do to make this a more welcoming community for LGBTQ members.
