Columbus, IN The Columbus Area Arts Council’s annual report to the community will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at YES Cinema. Light refreshments will be available at 4:30pm with the program beginning at 5:00pm. Charles (Rusty) Briel, Executive Director at the Indiana State School Music Association, will deliver a keynote talk about the importance of music and arts education. YES Cinema is located at 328 Jackson Street in the heart of the Columbus Arts District.
Briel has been Executive Director at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) since 2000. Prior to his hiring at ISSMA, he was Director of Orchestras at Center Grove High School and Instrumental Music Director in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. Briel holds an MS in Music Education from Indiana State University. ISSMA is the organization that develops and sponsors the music festivals for school bands, orchestras and choirs. Their activities provide a platform for evaluating music performance which, in turn, furthers their mission to develop performance-oriented assessment of state and national musical academic standards.
The theme of this year’s annual meeting picks up from last year’s talk on STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) when Don Steffy of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir spoke about the importance of the arts in the lives of young people.
The public is invited to attend the annual report to the community. For additional information, please visit www.artsincolumbus.org.
