INDIANAPOLIS/USA - While most Indiana state races remained in Republican hands, Democrat Beau Bayh won the Secretary of State contest, taking nearly 52% of the vote in Tuesday's General Election.
As far as the country is concerned, the "Blue Tsunami" that was talked about for months actually happened. The Democrats won both the House and the Senate, and now control both houses of Congress for at least the next two years.
Democrats took back the Senate by winning races in traditionally Republican or "purple" states like Texas, South Carolina, Ohio, Maine, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, and Michigan.
The Dems also won key governorships in Ohio, Texas, Iowa, Michigan, and Georgia. The Kansas race is too close to call.
To give you an idea of how bad the night was for Republicans, the Mississippi Senate contest is virtually a dead heat with most of the votes counted.
