Franklin Fire Department closes 2 local hotels

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The City of Franklin Fire Department (FFD) has ordered the Relax Inn and Econo Lodge hotels to close due to extended fire alarm system outages that have created unacceptable life and safety risks for occupants.

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The City of Franklin Fire Department (FFD) has ordered the Relax Inn and Econo Lodge hotels to close due to extended fire alarm system outages that have created unacceptable life and safety risks for occupants.

During recent inspections and follow-up evaluations, FFD determined that the required fire alarm systems at both properties were not operational.

“Fire officials worked with property ownership to identify options that could have allowed continued operation while protecting occupants,” said FFD Fire Chief Joshua Snyder. “When the ownership group refused those options, we had no alternative but to order the closure of these facilities.”

The two hotels will remain closed until the fire alarm systems are fully restored, tested, and approved by the Franklin Fire Department. Once all required systems are operational and compliance is verified, FFD will conduct reinspections to determine eligibility for reopening.

The Franklin Fire Department said it remains committed to working with property owners to achieve compliance while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the community.
