FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Johnson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) was dispatched to northbound I-65 near the 90-mile marker early Saturday morning for a one-vehicle accident.
When deputies arrived at around 5:40 a.m., they found an SUV (Hummer) overturned near the eastside guardrail.
The driver was confirmed to be deceased by fire personnel on scene. He was later identified as Carlos Alberto Contreras Montalvo, 42, of Covington, Georgia.
After talking with witnesses, JCSO crash investigators have initially surmised that the Hummer left the interstate, traveled through a grassy area, struck a bridge abutment, went airborne, and came to rest on its top against the guardrail.
The vehicle had to be flipped over to extricate the driver. There were no other passengers.
