Indiana breaks ground on new District 6 DNR headquarters

Courtesy-Indiana DNR

NINEVEH, Ind - A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction of the new headquarters for DNR Law Enforcement, District 6, took place Thursday afternoon.

Gov. Mike Braun and DNR Law Enforcement leaders were on hand for the ceremony in Nineveh. District 6 serves Bartholomew, Johnson, Brown, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Monroe, Morgan, and Shelby counties.

The new headquarters will replace trailers that have served as district headquarters since 2016, and support 23 field conservation officers and staff. It will provide evidence storage capabilities, training rooms, space for district equipment, and be outfitted with audio-visual and technology resources.

Conservation officers are trained in specialties including scuba diving, sonar searches, K-9 units, airboat operations, and swift water rescues.

Indiana DNR Law Enforcement is the state’s oldest law enforcement agency, with a force of more than 200 officers who promote safety in the outdoors and uphold conservation laws across Indiana.
