FRANKLIN, Ind. - Members of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) maintenance team recently visited the memorial for Reserve Deputy Tracy Miles, where they installed a new sheriff's department hat.

JCSO Reserve Deputy Miles was fatally injured when struck by a camper van while speaking with a driver on Interstate 65, north of the Whiteland exit, in 1999.

Miles was on patrol and had stopped to place a notice on an abandoned vehicle. He was assisting the driver when the incident occurred.

Despite the severity of the impact, which threw him 126 feet, the deputy managed to push the driver to safety, saving the driver's life at the cost of his own.

Deputy Tracy Miles, badge #41-126, served the Johnson County Sheriff's Office for 15 years. He was 40 years old at the time of his death.

End of Watch: Friday, May 28, 1999.
