Whiteland dedicates roundabout to NHRA Champ Bob Glidden

WHITELAND, Ind. - The Town of Whiteland honored local legend and NHRA champion Bob Glidden on Tuesday by dedicating a new roundabout to his memory. 

The ceremony, held on what would have been the drag racing icon’s 82nd birthday, celebrated a remarkable career that included 10 national championships and 85 wins.  

Located at the intersection of Whiteland Road and Bob Glidden Boulevard near Interstate 65, the roundabout features a custom tribute designed by Bo-Mar Industries. The artwork showcases Glidden’s career highlights and includes a unique "Easter egg," a sculpture of a scarlet macaw named Murphy, representing the family’s love for large birds.  

Nearly 100 attendees gathered for the event, which was highlighted by a special appearance of Glidden’s undefeated 1978 Ford Fairmont, which took a ceremonial lap around the new landmark. 

Whiteland Town Manager Carmen Young noted the day was a fitting tribute to one of racing’s greatest figures.
