13-year-old struck by pickup in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. – A 13-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Tuesday, April 28, at 4:45 p.m.

The Columbus Police Department (CPD) and first responders were called to 5th and Lindsey Streets about a personal injury accident.

When officers arrived, they found that a juvenile had been struck by a pickup truck. The teenager had a possible head injury and was flown by helicopter from the scene to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment.

Police spoke to the driver of the vehicle, a 72-year-old man from Columbus, and several witnesses. It appears that the juvenile crossed Lindsey Street going east at 5th Street when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on Lindsey Street hit him.

The teen is believed to be in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has direct information about the crash, contact CPD at 812-376-2600.
