COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Board of Zoning Appeals has denied a conditional use permit request to operate two home-based businesses out of a large accessory structure in rural Bartholomew County.
A petitioner requested approval for BZA 26-61 to operate Cleanouts & Cans dumpster rental out of a 4,992-square-foot accessory building alongside Cedar Trails Construction (8270 Nasby Trail) in an Ag General zoning district.
The request sought permission to store commercial roll-off dumpsters and equipment on the property. However, board members voiced significant concerns regarding outdoor equipment storage, non-compliance with the county's comprehensive plan, and potential negative impacts on surrounding agricultural and residential property values.
After deliberations, the board voted to deny the petition, saying the project did not satisfy key statutory criteria regarding general welfare, neighboring property values, and district character.
