Columbus observes 100th anniversary of Black History Month

Columbus, IN — Black History Month Columbus (BHMC) has announced its February 2026 community-wide celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of Black History Month.

The centennial theme is “From Then to Now: 100 Years of Celebrating Black History Month.”

Throughout February, community partner organizations across Columbus and Bartholomew County will host events that invite all neighbors to learn, reflect, celebrate, and build deeper connections together. BHMC is a community-wide initiative created to celebrate Black culture, share the true stories of Black history, and honor the legacy and accomplishments of the Black community.   

The Black History Month Columbus 2026 Community Calendar features a diverse range of events and celebrations, including arts, music, culture, church services, "conversations that matter," dance, sports, youth programs, and random acts of kindness.
