COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus City Council approved the second reading of an ordinance fixing the salaries for elected city leadership for the 2027 payroll calendar year. The council addressed executive and legislative compensation during its regular meeting at City Hall.
With a 7-1 vote, the ordinance setting the 2027 compensation for the elected Mayor and City Clerk passed. In a separate measure, the ordinance fixing the 2027 salaries for Common Council members also passed. That vote was 7–2.
Salary adjustments for elected officials are structured annually in accordance with Indiana state statute. Human Resources Director Arlette Cooper-Tinsley presented the ordinances to the council and confirmed no changes were made after the first reading.
Councilmembers Elaine Hilber and Chris Bartels opposed the council salary measure.
Both salary ordinances passed their final reading and will take effect for the 2027 payroll calendar year beginning in January.
