COLUMBUS, Ind. - Columbus city employees and elected officials are inline for a cost-of-living adjustment next year after the Columbus City Council approved the first readings of several 2027 salary ordinances on Tuesday, September 1.

Based on the July 2026 Consumer Price Index, the proposed ordinances include a 3.5% cost-of-living increase across city departments.

The measure covers sworn police and fire personnel, civilian staff, and elected officials.

The council voted 7-2 to pass the first reading of the elected officials' salary increase, with council members Elaine Hilber and Chris Bartels voting against the measure, citing a desire for further budget collaboration.
