Columbus City Council gives final approval for annexation, rezoning for Sawin Drive development

Courtesy-City of Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus City Council officially approved the annexation and rezoning of roughly 80 acres off Sawin Drive during its Tuesday meeting, clearing the way for a potential new residential development.

The property was rezoned from Agriculture Preferred to Two-Family Residential, which allows for up to 300 residential units.

Representatives from Abundant Home Solutions indicated their intention to build higher-end housing options similar to the nearby Villas at Stonecrest development.

Nearby residents expressed concerns regarding increased traffic density, safety, and school capacity, but city officials noted that a reconstruction project for Sawin Drive is already scheduled for the early 2030s.
