ARLINGTON, Texas - Peyton Gray, a 2014 graduate of Columbus East High School, had his dream come true on Thursday night. After 12 years of College, Minor League, Independent League, Mexican League, and Dominican League baseball, Gray made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut on Thursday night.
He closed out the 6-1 Texas victory over the Pirates with a perfect inning. Three batters up, three batters down. He ended the game with his first MLB strikeout.
Gray cracked a major league roster for the first time. While he was bouncing around trying to get to "The Show," he worked for UPS, DoorDash, cut trees, and did other odd jobs. He will be 31 in June.
The new MLB relief pitcher had a great Spring Training camp in March and almost made the team's opening day roster. He was sent to AAA and continued to post impressive numbers.
His minor league manager called him late Wednesday night and told him to pack his bags, as he was being promoted to the big club. Gray was on a plane to Arlington on Thursday morning and pitched in his first MLB game Thursday night with his wife, mom, dad, and family in attendance. He did not disappoint. The dream continues.
