Columbus man gets 20 years for causing death while driving intoxicated in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Johnson County Superior Court 3 sentenced a Columbus man to 20 years for causing the death of an Illinois man while operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Franklin last summer.

44-year-old Jerrin Alan Staker of Columbus, pled guilty to felony charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death (Level 4). 

In July 2025, the Franklin Police Department responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of North Morton Street and Commerce Drive.

Multiple callers had reported a blue Jeep traveling at high speeds, running red lights, swerving, and driving in the median.

The suspect allegedly drove through a red light before striking a vehicle driven by Braden Robertson of Illinois. Robertson died from his injuries at the scene.
