COLUMBUS, Ind. - The investigation continues following a shooting that killed a local man on Monday, June 22. More details were released on Tuesday.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) and other first responders were called to a home in the 3000 block of Wedgewood Drive for a shooting early Monday morning.
The caller told dispatch that he had shot a man after being attacked. Officers found the man who had been shot outside and began to render first aid, but ultimately, he died. The caller remained at the scene until officers arrived. Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to begin their thorough investigation.
The Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as David R Young, 44, of Columbus. The preliminary investigation indicates that Young was known to the people who lived in the home, and he drove there that morning. An altercation took place near the front door, and Young was shot.
At this point in the investigation, no arrests have been made. Detectives continue to speak to potential witnesses and gather evidence. A forensic autopsy has been scheduled.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the findings will be given to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Officers and other first responders were called to a house in the 3000 block of Wedgewood Drive for the shooting at just after 9 a.m. The caller said that he had shot a man who attacked him.
Police secured the scene and began evaluating the man who was shot. Medical personnel also rushed to the home to treat the man, but ultimately, he died.
CPD detectives are actively working the ongoing investigation.
