COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Redevelopment Commission has unanimously passed Resolution 19-2026 to commit $3 million toward the restoration and reopening of the historic Crump Center for the Performing Arts.
The local funding match will come from the city’s Central Allocation Area to secure state Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) grant funds. Because the request exceeds the Redevelopment Commission’s $500,000 spending limit, the proposal now moves to the Columbus City Council for final approval at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, October 6, at 6 p.m.
The project is currently in the design development phase and undergoing historic reviews with the State Historic Preservation Office. Construction bidding is slated for Spring 2027, with a 14- to 16-month buildout. The grand opening is targeted for Fall 2028 to comply with state READI grant expenditure deadlines.
Consulting firms AMS Planning & Research and Historic Theater Consultants are assisting project leaders with operational sustainability and business planning. Once operational, the venue expects to host between 180 and 263 event days per year, featuring a mix of local community groups and national touring acts.
