COLUMBUS, Ind. - Two people are in custody following a traffic stop in which a large amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl were allegedly found.
On October 28, at about 8:30 p.m., the Columbus Police Department (CPD) pulled over an SUV for speeding on I-65 near the 64-mile-marker. The driver, Benjamin Bracewell, 49, and the passenger, Sylvia Flowers, 37, are both from Norman, IN.
During the traffic stop, CPD canine Titus conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of drugs. A search of the SUV supposedly uncovered suspected marijuana. Officers also reportedly found a round object wrapped in plastic near Flowers that they believe she tried to discard.
The two suspects were arrested for the preliminary charge of possession of marijuana. Once at the jail, additional suspected marijuana and meth were allegedly discovered in Flowers’ clothing.
CPD examined the round object wrapped in plastic and found two bags inside. Police say one bag contained suspected meth weighing 449 grams (almost a pound). The other weighed almost 27 grams and supposedly contained suspected fentanyl.
After further investigation, Bracewell and Flowers were additionally charged with dealing a narcotic drug and dealing meth, both level-2 felonies.
All charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
