INDIANAPOLIS - The National Weather Service has issued a "Hazardous Weather Outlook" for south-central Indiana for Wednesday and Thursday. It includes Bartholomew, Johnson, Jennings, Jackson, Brown, Shelby, and Decatur Counties.

Temperatures in the lower 90s and dew points in the upper 60s and 70s will produce dangerous heat index values in the upper 90s and low 100s.

If you are planning to spend time outdoors on Wednesday or Thursday, take precautions to prevent heat-related illness, including:

  • Taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments
  • Staying well hydrated throughout the day
  • Wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing
  • Limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
  • Checking on family members, neighbors, and pets

Extreme heat is one of the leading weather-related causes of injury and death in the United States. Taking precautions can significantly reduce the risk of heat-related illness.

NWS says a cold front is scheduled to move through Indiana on Friday.
