Frey is retiring from Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce

COLUMBUS, Ind. - After dedicating more than 40 years to a career in community and economic development, Cindy Frey has announced her retirement from the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce.

Frey served as the Chamber's President and CEO for 13 years, during which time she spearheaded numerous initiatives to strengthen the local business community.

"Cindy's leadership and tireless dedication to the Columbus business community have been extraordinary," said Board Chair Matt Carothers. "Her vision and strategic approach have been instrumental in helping our local businesses thrive and positioning our city as an attractive destination for new investment."

In the last six years alone, the Chamber has helped businesses navigate the challenges of the global pandemic, overcome the unexpected loss of its own offices, and ultimately purchase and renovate a building that is contributing to downtown’s revitalization.

Frey built strong partnerships with local government, nonprofits, and other key stakeholders, which enabled her to advocate effectively for pro-business policies and initiatives.

She has served on more than 20 boards and commissions, representing the voice of the business community. She doubled the Chamber’s assets, diversified its membership, and invested over $3 million in grant funding to enhance the community’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through the Columbus Area Chamber Foundation.

“Serving as the president of the Columbus Chamber has been a great privilege. I am proud to leave behind an outstanding, experienced board and staff that put our members and our community first. Thanks to them, the Chamber will remain a vital and trusted community resource,” said Frey.

She championed programs and resources to assist small businesses, providing guidance, funding, training, and networking opportunities for local entrepreneurs. Frey also oversaw the growth and evolution of the Chamber's programs, ensuring they remain relevant and impactful for the business community.

The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce Board has engaged executive search firm YGM to conduct a national search for the Chamber’s next President. A search committee composed of board members and community stakeholders is facilitating the process. YGM has conducted dozens of Chamber executive searches nationwide.

Frey’s final day will be June 26.
