Gov. Braun temporarily suspends Indiana gas tax

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Mike Braun announced on Wednesday, April 8, that he will suspend Indiana's gas tax to combat higher prices incurred because of the war with Iran.

The gas tax holiday is a 30-day suspension of the 7% usage tax on fuel, followed by review. The declaration could be extended if the emergency continues.

Governor Braun called on gasoline retailers to deliver the gas tax relief directly to consumers. State officials will be “patrolling the pumps” — monitoring prices to ensure that savings are provided for Hoosiers at gas stations.

He also ordered the Attorney General to enforce protections from price gauging by retailers.

In a statement released on social media, Gov. Braun said, "I am suspending Indiana's gas tax for at least 30 days to provide Hoosiers relief from the pain at the pump from high gas prices."
