GREENWOOD, Ind. — The Greenwood Common Council approved a new multi-year pay matrix for the city fire department at its meeting on Monday, October 19.
The plan is a collaborative effort involving the fire department, union representatives, City Controller Greg Wright, Deputy Mayor Terry McLaughlin, and Mayor Mark W. Myers.
The updated salary structure is designed to improve recruitment and retention while strengthening the department’s pension base to remain competitive with surrounding communities. Department representatives noted that five full-time firefighters left for other agencies earlier this year.
The council also passed Ordinance 2639 under a suspension of rules to amend the 2026 salary ordinance. The measure adds two lieutenant positions and one captain position in preparation for the opening of Fire Station 95.
