INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Historical Society has announced the appointment of a new Indiana county historian in Jennings County.
New Jennings County historian Louise Malcomb is Librarian Emeritus at Indiana University Bloomington, where she worked as a Librarian and Associate Professor for Government Information and Maps. She serves on the board of the Indiana Barn Foundation, is a member of the Hayden Historical Museum and the Jennings County Historical Society, and volunteers for many organizations.
Malcomb served as Associate Historian under Sheila Kell, along with Ed Kellar and Bonita Welch, and on the America 250 Jennings County Committee. In 1981, as part of an effort to enhance the state's historical communication network, the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau established the Indiana County Historian Program.
County historians serve as volunteers appointed by the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau to promote local history in their counties, connect individuals and groups with historical resources, foster collaboration between local history organizations, and maintain connections with the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau.
