NORTH VERNON, Ind. - The Jennings County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) and North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) responded to a residence in Spencer Township on Tuesday, August 4, after receiving a report of a man who was choking and turning blue.
NVPD Officer Chris Allen arrived first, followed shortly by JCSO Deputy Owen Miller and Sgt. Drew Heilers. First responders quickly assessed the situation and utilized a LifeVac device, which had been provided through the Jennings County Health Department.
The LifeVac successfully removed the lodged object from the man's airway, allowing him to begin breathing again.
The coordinated efforts and quick actions of JCSO and NVPD were instrumental in saving the individual's life. This incident demonstrates the importance of having lifesaving equipment readily available and the value of training in its use.
