FRANKLIN, Ind. — City of Franklin leadership is finalizing a conceptual flood mitigation and stream stabilization plan for Youngs Creek ahead of an upcoming trip to advocate for federal infrastructure support.
The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a professional services agreement with American Structurepoint to examine the stretch of Youngs Creek between the Fred Paris Pedestrian Bridge and Main Street.
The study will evaluate bank stabilization options, channel improvements, and minor flood control measures around the city's downtown park and amphitheater grounds.
Mayor Steve Barnett will use the conceptual designs during meetings with U.S. Senators in Washington, D.C., to seek federal grant opportunities and stormwater funding.
The initiative builds on two decades of municipal stormwater improvements aimed at reducing localized flooding from routine heavy rain events.
