COLUMBUS, Ind. — Local officials have boosted pedestrian safety and infrastructure connectivity near the Columbus Airpark. The Columbus Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously to approve up to $184,094 for sidewalk installations at the airport.
Airport Director Bryan Payne outlined the scope of work, which includes a 5-foot concrete sidewalk along Arnold Street to connect the newly redeveloped Indiana Air National Guard Armory and parachute rigging unit to nearby access routes.
Additionally, a new sidewalk segment along Poshard Drive will link student housing and Ivy Tech Community College Columbus to a new bus stop located at Wade Drive and Poshard Drive.
Contractors selected for the project will also install a flashing crosswalk pedestrian signal along Arnold Street to slow surrounding traffic and assist pedestrians. The project will be funded out of the Airport TIF allocation area.
