New York truck driver arrested in Columbus for drunk driving

COLUMBUS, Ind. - Troopers from the Indiana State Police (ISP)-Versailles Post arrested a New York man for operating while intoxicated and other charges following a traffic stop on I-65 in Bartholomew County on Saturday, February 28.

A caller reported a semi pulling a trailer was driving recklessly on northbound I-65 near the 60-mile marker, south of Columbus. Troopers located the vehicle and observed it being driven recklessly, nearly striking a guardrail. ISP pulled the semi over just north of exit 68. 

During the traffic stop, troopers noticed that the driver, Rodney W. Sanford, 64, of North Collins, NY, was possibly impaired. A Columbus Police Department K-9 Officer also responded to assist.   

After an investigation, Sanford was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated. During a search of the suspect’s truck, troopers allegedly found suspected marijuana, THC gummies, and prescription medications.    

Sanford was incarcerated in the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated (Drugs), Operating While Intoxicated-Endangerment, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Legend Drugs.
