Noise variance granted for delayed nighttime US 31 infrastructure work in Franklin

Courtesy-INDOT

FRANKLIN, Ind. — The City of Franklin Board of Public Works and Safety has approved a noise ordinance variance to allow nighttime construction along the US 31 corridor to help secure the route for winter travel.

Milestone Contractors presented the request to allow overhead signal and signage work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Construction on Phase 3 has fallen behind its original August 1 completion deadline. Due to extensive utility relocation delays across the corridor, final phase completion has been pushed back to June 2027.

To mitigate further delays and improve safety before winter weather sets in, Milestone has implemented weekday overtime and Saturday shifts. The approved evening hours will enable crews to complete overhead spans and signal work over US 31 with minimal disruption to daytime traffic.
