NVPD traffic stop leads to meth bust

NORTH VERNON, Ind. - The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) released information on Friday night about a methamphetamine arrest that took place the previous week.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on February 13 in the area of West Poplar Street after observing a vehicle with a malfunctioning taillight.

The driver, Jason Perry, was issued a written warning for the equipment violation. Following the reading of the Indiana Pirtle rights to Perry, law enforcement said he granted NVPD the consent to search the vehicle.

Officers allegedly located a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance beneath the driver’s seat. It later field-tested positive for meth.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Jennings County Jail without incident. Perry was preliminarily charged with Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony).

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

NVPD Chief Messer stated, “Our officers remain proactive every day, addressing violations that often lead to the discovery of more serious criminal activity and helping keep our community safe.”
