Seymour Police officer rescues pair in pickup from high water

Sgt. Jordan-Courtesy of Seymour Police Dept.

SEYMOUR, Ind. - Seymour Police Department (SPD) officer Sgt. Gabe Jordan overheard a Jackson County Sheriff's Department dispatch on Thursday, May 7, for a water rescue near Cypress Lake, which is outside the City limits.

The report was that the vehicle had run off the road and was quickly filling up with water. Sgt. Jordan was able to see on the map that no units were close to the incident.

He responded to the location and observed a pickup truck submerged in water. The SPD officer entered the waist-high water and removed the driver, who was able to walk to safety.

Sgt. Jordan then returned to the submerged vehicle and assisted a female occupant. Because of the strong current of the water, he carried the woman to safety.

Jackson County EMS treated the pickup truck driver and the passenger.
