NORTH VERNON, Ind. - A traffic stop conducted by the Jennings County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) resulted in a North Vernon man being taken into custody on multiple drug-related charges on Tuesday, July 21.
Lt. Thomas Mellencamp pulled over Alex Simmons, 37, of North Vernon, after observing multiple traffic infractions in the Country Squire Lakes area at 11:30 p.m.
During the course of the JCSO investigation, probable cause was established to search the vehicle. It resulted in the discovery of about four grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug-related items.
During an interview with law enforcement, Simmons allegedly admitted to dealing meth and stated that he was "giving it to people who needed it."
The suspect was arrested and transported to Jennings County Jail. He is being held on the preliminary charges of:
Dealing Methamphetamine (Level 4 Felony)
Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
Possession of Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
All criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
