Man arrested after throwing soda at officer

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers recognized Roger Godsey, 28, of Columbus, near the 1300 block of Union Street on Thursday afternoon, and knew he had an outstanding warrant. When they stopped him for questioning, they said he falsely identified himself. CPD tried to arrest Godsey, but he ran away and later allegedly threw a can of soda which hit and spilled on one of the officers in pursuit.

At one point during the chase, police tried to taser him, but it was not effective. The pursuit continued over a fence and through multiple yards until the suspect was eventually apprehended in the 1200 block of Union Street.

Godsey was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of battery on a public safety officer, resisting law enforcement, false informing, and a Jennings County warrant.
