Stolen golf course vehicle recovered by police

COLUMBUS, Ind. – A utility vehicle that was stolen during a recent burglary at Greenbelt Golf Course was recovered after it was spotted by a Columbus Parks and Recreation employee last Thursday evening.

Columbus Parks and Recreation director Mark Jones observed what looked to be a city-owned golf course utility vehicle as it was being driven on the People Trail. It was later stopped by the Columbus Police Department (CPD) near McKinnley Avenue and McShane Street. Officers questioned the driver, who was identified as Caleb Bowers, 33, of Columbus.

CPD confirmed that the vehicle was the one that was allegedly stolen from the Greenbelt Golf Course maintenance building, so Bowers was placed under arrest. Officers also say they found marijuana and methamphetamine while searching the suspect’s clothing.

Bowers was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and charged with theft, burglary, possession of meth, and possession of marijuana.
