Jose’s Blog: The Haunting at Shireman Homestead Review

Columbus, IN, USA / QMIX 107.3

Welcome back to my blog! I had a really good weekend with my friends, but also very spooky. On Saturday night, my friends and I headed down to Shireman Homestead, which is located in Columbus, Indiana and went on their haunted trail. This was my third year visiting, and man, it was epic! The Haunting at Shireman Homestead was awesome, and terrifying! This haunted trail takes place on a huge, not-for-profit farm that raises money to help save, and help animals. They rehome animals, rescue them, and do much more, and that is just beautiful! The haunted trail they do on the farm is for a good reason, but that is not all they do. They hold many unique different events in the winter, spring, and summer. Upon arriving, the atmosphere was darker than usual, which helped with the haunted trail a lot. During the haunted trail, you will come face-to-face with their headless horseman, go through a ghost town, cross several bridges, and encounter clowns, and scareactors.

A dimly-lit sign off the highway helped point us in the right direction of Shireman. An additional haunt sign, several parking signs and Halloween lighting greeted us when we pulled in, letting us know we had found what we were looking for! An air balloon marked the entrance of where tickets can be purchased. This was kind of a central area of the attraction that included a concession stand, bonfire and is also where the wagons will drop you off after your tour, that is if you make it. Everywhere we walked at this attraction was lined with gravel, making it easy to navigate although we did still run into some tree roots on the trail so just watch your footing out there. There were also lights and caution tape lining basically the entire path, making it nearly impossible to stray away from where we were supposed to be. Friendly staff were located at the ticket booth, concessions, the entrance of the trail, at the mine shaft and on the wagon in case any questions or concerns are to arise.

Shireman Homestead goes ALL out for their haunted attraction, but also before you enter. They are several decorations along the waiting line, filled with skeletons, clowns, and goblins walking around to terrify you as you wait. Shireman Homestead resembles a little Halloween town with all of their inflatables, ghost projection, orange and purple lights, pumpkins, creepy music and, of course, a horse.

Overall, The Haunting at Shireman Homestead is a great haunted trail for middle schoolers and up! It is opened every Friday and Saturday in October, and November 1-2nd from 8 P.M.- 11 P.M. Admission is $15.00 for real scare, but only $5.00 during 4 P.M.-6 P.M. for a child-friendly walkthrough. If you want to hang out with your friends, and want to get scared, I highly encourage you to visit this trail! It’s dark, spooky, unexpected, wonderful, and also the decorations are on-point.
