COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) says that it will have more deputies patrolling the streets and roadways during the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.

With more people on the roads this weekend, BCSO wants to make sure that all drivers and passengers stay safe. “Seat belts are the number one safety device in our vehicles,” said BCSO Chief Deputy Major Chris Lane. “Deputies will be enforcing seat belt laws and reminding people about the importance of wearing seat belts.”

Law enforcement authorities also remind motorists this weekend to not get behind the wheel after having consumed alcoholic beverages.

BCSO says the extra patrols are reportedly being funded through an OPO grant.
