COLUMBUS, Ind. – After a 53-hour search, the Bartholomew County Water Rescue/Recovery Team and other rescue agencies, found the body of two-year-old Emma Sweet in the East Fork White River, on Sunday at around 11 a.m. Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting will investigate to identify the cause of death.

Law enforcement says her body was located about two-and-one-half miles downstream from where the truck belonging to her father, Jeremy Sweet, was found Friday morning. A firefighter was searching the riverbank when he reportedly saw Emma in the water. Divers were called to the scene shortly after and the body was recovered.

“I had no doubt that the men and women searching for Emma would find her,” said Sheriff Matt Myers. “I pray the Lord comforts the family during this difficult time.”

Jeremy Sweet is now being held on a 72-hour hold without bond while the investigation continues.
