COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop, along with members of the Columbus Bicentennial Committee, attended the groundbreaking on Tuesday for the 1821 Trail Extension. The ceremony marked the final event in the Columbus bicentennial celebration.

The trail extension is set to be constructed along First Street, from Haw Creek Trail, which ends at Lafayette Street, to Water Street. The trail extension will also include architectural and art elements to encompass the 2021 Bicentennial theme of “Common Ground.”

The trail will feature bricks inscribed with names, families, and businesses who contributed to the People Trail System. You can buy an 1821 Trail Extension brick here.
